- Dr Chandra Bhanu Satpathy
Shirdi Sai Global Foundation believes in the principles of love and humanity. At the times of natural calamities when humanity is put under distress en masse, the Foundation jumps into action and executes the relief and rehabilitation programs in the right earnest. In this pursuit of the Foundation, many other organisations lend their hands whole heartedly under the inspiration and guidance of our Founder Chairman Dr Chandra Bhanu Satpathy.
On 16th and 17th of June 2013, very heavy rainfall and resultant flash floods and landslides in Uttarakhand led to a massive natural disaster. The disaster coincided with the peak tourist and pilgrimage session in the region. This was a critical factor which led to the increase in the number of casualty. It also adversely effected the rescue and relief operation as the government agencies were more focused in the rescue operations in the initial phases after the natural calamity had struck. As per the official estimates, more than nine million people were affected by the flash floods. It is estimated that 169 people died and 4021 went missing (presumed to be dead) in this disaster.
Shirdi Sai Global Foundation undertook relief and rehabilitation work in the flood affected area of the state of Jammu and Kashmir in September 2014. The Foundation tied up with Ph.D. Chamber of Commerce, New Delhi and the Indian Army for the relief work. The relief material including big tents to accommodate 20-30 people at a time, clothes, food and medicines were airlifted for distribution in affected areas. The effort of providing community water purifiers to cater to the supply of drinking water en masse was specifically lauded by the local authorities.
Shirdi Sai Global Foundation through its Bhubameswar, Odisha centre, organized a relief camp for the Phailin cyclone and flood affected people. Food to hundreds of people and necessary articles of relief were distributed. To provide medical aid, a health camp was organized in which these people were medically examined and medicine was distributed free of cost. This event was organised on 17th and 18th of October, 2013.A health camp was also organized by the Foundation in Niali District of Odisha which was heavily affected by cyclone Phailin.
